Obstetrics:
I have a public appointment at the Wollongong Hospital, which involves being regularly on call as a consultant. Mostly this means supervising the registrar in training.
I have a limited private practice, which I cap at around 150 deliveries a year, many of which are for infertility pregnancies from couples I have treated. Taking a couple through investigations, treatment and then a pregnancy after infertility or recurrent miscarriage is particularly fulfilling.
My VMO appointments mean that I can deliver private patients in either Figtree Private Hospital or The Wollongong Hospital. My rooms are straight across the road from Figtree Private Hospital making me very close on many occasions, which is something I appreciate greatly.
From 2005 my practice will include a midwife to see patients for some consultations and for education. Many of the issues related to pregnancy will be able to be covered more thoroughly by her than I currently can. She will be able to do separate teaching on aspects of pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood. When I am unavailable, be it a conference or on leave, my obstetric cover is done by Dr John Walton who is one of Wollongong’s senior respected obstetricians/gynaecologists.
